This is a disposable medical face mask. It has three layers of filtration with a bacterial filtration efficiency (BPE) of 95% or greater. Face masks are loose-fitting devices that creates a physical barrier between the wearer and the immediate environment. It protects you from hazards, such as splashes of large particle droplets of blood or body fluids, splashes, sprays, or splatter that my contain germs (viruses and bacteria), keeping it from reaching your mouth and nose. It may also help reduce exposure of your saliva and respiratory secretions to others. This mask may also prevent your contaminated fingers or hands from touching your mouth and nose.
The hydrophobic outer layer of the mask is waterproof which helps to protect you against splashes or spays or droplets of blood or bodily fluids. The fibrous middle layer is a melt-blown fabric that acts as the filter. The absorbent innermost layer is intended to absorb water, sweat and body fluids. The three layers are non-woven. This is why it is called a 3-ply mask. This mask is non-sterile.
While face masks may be effective in blocking splashes and large-particle droplets, they do not by design filter or block very small particles in the air that may be transmitted by coughs, sneezes, or certain medical procedures. Face masks do not provide complete protection from germs and other contaminants because of the loose fit between the surface of the mask and your face even when worn correctly. This is because air can still escape along the sides of the mask.
Face masks are not intended to be used more than once. It is used once and then disposed of properly. To ensure proper use, the white inner layer is the side immediately touching your face while the blue outer layer faces outwards.
